Interesting ideas for your coffee
Coffee can be enjoyed in many ways. Some take it with sugar and milk, some prefer a black coffee, while some others may enjoy their coffee with things that might be considered “odd” or “interesting” as follows:
Salt
Some coffee drinkers prefer their brew sweet, and some bitter. However, sugar tends to mask the actual flavour of coffee. So, by adding just a pinch of salt, you get to enjoy the full flavour of coffee while eliminating some of the bitterness. You won’t taste the salt (unless you have a heavy hand).
Butter
In Asian countries, people believe that butter helps to create a dynamic and rich flavor in the coffee. Coffee is usually poured over condensed milk at the bottom of the mug, follows by a slab of butter on top.
Vanilla Extract
If your are a fan of all things vanilla, and haven’t tried vanilla extract/essence in your coffee yet, then you may want to try this. Vanilla can serve as a substitute for sugar, and will give you an amazing smell and taste.
Cinnamon
Another addition that offers a great scent and flavour is cinnamon. Cinnamon does not only contain less calories than sugar, it also has immune system-boosting properties. Adding a pinch of cinnamon powder or stirring the coffee with a cinnamon stick are both equally delicious.
Chocolate
Rather than adding sugary syrup, try adding a teaspoon of cocoa powder or chunks of your favourite chocolate to your cup. It will provide a rich, chocolatey addition to your afternoon caffeine fix, and cocoa can help to soften its bitter profile.
Eggs
Could you stomach this one? Even the thought? There are some traditional coffees, such as the Vietnamese egg coffee, can be done by just adding egg into your coffee. It can certainly give you a protein punch. By adding a touch of sugar can even turn it into a coffee custard of some sort.
Ice Cream
This idea is easy to get on board with. You can easily turn your classic cup of coffee into an indulgent ice cream treat, by simply pour bold-tasting hot black coffee over a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The hot coffee slowly melts the cold ice cream, creating a creamy, sweet coffee float. Delicious!
Ginger
Ginger in coffee may sound crazy. But if you love gingerbread cookie, you’ll be addicted to this addition. Adding a couple slices of fresh ginger root to your coffee, or even a teaspoon of ginger powder, will make it taste like caffeinated Christmas in a glass.
How would you enjoy your coffee? What would you add to your coffee?
